**This does not consider who is qualified for playoffs... I dont have time for that!!!***

98 Teams In 2A... 64 make the playoffs... 34 start basketball in 2 weeks

The midpoint are the 48th (Bartlett Yancey 842) and the 49th (Hertford Co 839)

Of the largest 48 schools: 30 are at 900+ students, 9 of those over 1000 (18 teams between 842 and 899 students)

Of the smallest 48 schools: 38 are less than 800 students, 7 less than 700 kids (10 teams between 800 and 839 students)

Of the largest 48 schools: 23 are for traditionally Western, 20 Eastern, 5 could go either way

Of the smallest 48 schools: 19 are Western, 23 Eastern, and 6 could go either way

Schools between the 38th and 58th spot have no idea where they would go.

NCHSAA should go to a 5A system.

I'd love to see NCHSAA go to 5A and get rid of the large/small crap. Just have 5 state champions in each sport. But they would lose money and that's all that matters.

None of the other sports subdivide (?), so they would gain an extra championship and money right there.

Might seem crazy, but I would take the top 32 teams in Simmons final rating system and go from there and just have 1a-4a...I know it sounds crazy, but I have way to much free time on my hands to think of this stuff

I have seen a board with the state divided into five classes. It does not work geographically.

The NCHSAA admin (the people that work in Chapel Hill) have given numerous options in realignment to include a football only alignment that would do this. The schools have not been interested.

The schools and system are the NCHSAA. Their reps make up the Board of Directors. They vote and can make any changes.

I feel extremely confident if NC had five classes the coaches / schools would vote to subdivide to ten champions!!! How do you think we got to eight???

Due to travel and split conference issues, the 2 best options in my opinion are to get back to the old 1A-4A with no subdivide, or go to a 1A-6A system. Biggest difference in the 1A-6A system is that the smallest of the small, and the largest of the large essentially would get their own classification which makes sense for everybody due to the disparity in enrollment that we see in our current 1A and 4A classes. The subdivide in each class is just too much in my opinion and very much waters things down. The 6A proposal is right in the middle of the old system and the new system.

Most other states use a 5A or 6A system and it works. NC is behind the times.

Not many states are geographically laid out like NC. SC was simple to lay out compared to NC.

The NCHSAA has computer programs showing a three, five, and six class layout. The three class setup with all team sport subdivided had huge variances in enrollments in the conference setups. Five classss would have required twice the amount of split conferences that are currently set which is an issue. Six classes would be a disaster.

The current system is fine for all sports other than football except for the issue of 1A open enrollment schools. The football only alignment would have worked very well. Teams travel on Friday, JV on Thursday and they would have maybe five travel games. With that the travel distance is not such a big issue so having more classes is not as a big a problem logistically.

Do you think having 64 of 76 1A football playing schools is sensible?

Yes it will with the 20/30/30/20 split. Most likely not as many one and two win teams but the same concept.

I have always thought six champions was a good number allowing participation, enrollment, and logistical sensibility although I prefer four or five.
