Let's just say Shelby does win the 2A state championship this year, would they be considered not just ONE OF THE BEST 2a teams ever, but THE BEST 2a team every?,I have a couple of teams that come to my mind when talking/thinking about the best ever in 2a,the 1995 Thomasville team is one of them and the 1999 High point central team is the other...Go!!!

This year's team is pretty special and breaking records left and right. However, as of right now...I personally think our defense last year was better. So as a complete team, that would be tough to answer. I think with the talent we have, we could probably outscore any 2A team ever just from sheer talent on offense, but there would probably be tons of total points scored in the game between any historical 2A team and this years Shelby team.

The crazier thing to consider is....sports writers are saying AC Reynolds is a top pick to win the 3AA title. Crest is the favorite right now for the 3A title....if and I said IF...Shelby beats Crest on Nov. 6th and both Reynolds and Crest win their respective 3A titles....does that make Shelby the 2A and 3A state champion??? Lol!

Oh yeah....we won by two scores but this happened late in the 4th quarter when we were down. Had we not converted that...it probably would have been game over!

No....

We haven't won anything this year also.... LONG way to go.....

I'd have to add the 2003 Reidsville team to this list of one of THE BEST 2A teams ever.

98' Champion .... You guys did beat AC Reynolds and might beat Crest Chargers who are favored to win 3A title for last game of the regular season game does not make you the champion of both classes....why? Simple....... AC Reynolds probably gotten a lot better and you guys played them very early in the year. Yes that also means Shelby could improve too. I would just brag about 2A and leave 3AA and 3A alone since it is not comparable due to many different reasons.

I had seen Thomasville 95 team and their defense was AWESOME. I doubt many team would score more than 10 points against them when they are ON. If I remember correctly, Clinton Darkhorses were undefeated that year and were shut out in State Final.

That 2003 Burlington Cummings team was really strong too. We (South Columbus) had a really strong team that year that thought could win state and ran into Cummings in the 3rd round. We jumped ahead but they walked us down and won. Didn't they beat Reidsville that year?

SW Onslow beat that Cummings team in the championship, so they definitely had a strong team that year. I'm sure their guys on here would be happy to remind us, hahaha.

The 1983 Randleman High School Football team was the Best ever assembled..........Bar none , any class ...........

Of course I am not familiar with Reidsville 2002 or 2003 and you are not familiar with Randleman 1983..........I know that numbers mean nothing , but no one on starting team O or D were under 6 ft. or under 200 lbs.....Running backs were from the I formation , Tailback 6 ft. 3 215 lbs. of speed and power....Fullback , 6 ft. 5 235 lbs... QB 6 ft. 1 200 lb. Morehead scholar , All lineman 6ft. 2 to 6.ft. 6 , 225 to 280....this is in 1983....The defense was spectacular and the offense was better......Not
playing down your Reidsville team just playing up my Tigers.....I know this , Page was the 4A champ that year I Think and it would not have been close if we could have played them......IMO.....Would Love to uave seen your Rams play..........

I'm sure Randleman would've had success running the ball up the middle. But everybody knows athletes have gotten better over time and those Reidsville teams would probably have had too much athleticism on the outside for your Randleman team to keep up with.

No No my Friend , we would have gone inside for sure and the sweeps were a thing of beauty , just like Southern Cal right and Southern Cal Left..Toss sweep to Antonio Goss , with the road Graders out front , hit the corner , turn on the jets and Good Night Irene...........Tell you what , just for fun , ask the ole Reidsville coach Ron Parsons , an Ex- Mail carrier himself at Tigertown , who may have been even better than Goss , if he remembers the 83 team.......by the way this group had won the state in 81 and 82 and were mostly all seniors in 83............

Got to go back to the original post. This Shelby team really is pretty special.

QB is ranked top 5 nationally in yards and tds. (#1 in state)
WR is ranked top 10 nationally in tds and top 20 in yards. (#1 in state)
CB is ranked top 5 nationally in ints with 9 (#1 in state, tied)
PK is #8 in nation in XPs. (#1 in the state)

Lots of athletes on this team. And we have beat two top 10 3A teams (Reynolds and Freedom) and 2 top 15 3A teams (South Point and Kings Mountain) and have #1 in 3A Crest in our sights 2 and a half weeks from now.

I would have to say this is one of the most high powered offenses ever in 2A.

That 1997 team shouldn't be considered a 2a team, they were a college all star team.. ha ha...They were very impressive...That Straight -T was a thing of beauty to
watch even though they killed my team that day

We could have and should have beat them. Spending the night hurt us. We were down by less than a score driving midway though the 4th quarter when we had a 4th and 1 and had a false start. We couldn't convert the 4th and 6 and they got two quick scores. I think if we played them 10 times that year they would have won 5 and we would have won 5. Our qb was way off in that game and missed several wide open passes that would have gone for scores. Wish we could play that game again. They didn't "kill" us like it's said so many times. It was a lot closer than the score indicated.

I played against the 1983,84,85 2A champions. The 83 Randleman and 85 Lexington fantasy game would be a great one.

Yep, played against Forest Hills that year. Had them down by 2 td's going into 4th qtr and a fluke fumble by their QB bounced right back into his hands and he took off for the go ahead td. We came back but missed a fg at the end. Crazy game I think there were at least 3 td's scored on fumbles run in.

The 1996 team had 2 starting NFL running backs on it if that's strong (Lenorad Henry - ECU and the Miami Dolphins and Willie Parker UNC and the Pitysburg Steelers. That's not counting Jarrius McPhsil 1990 ECU and the Miami Dolphins! 3 NFL starting running backs!!!

Shotgun Spread....in case you have been in a cave, Antonio Goss started for San Fransico 49ers and Chiefs ( I think) in NFL and if I am not mistaken, Kyle Petty was a QB? That Randleman team won 3 years in a row in 2A. They were VERY powerful team. I would say Reidsville got away in some way in 2002 and 2003 since they did play in 2A/2AA playoff split. I think Reidsville barely beat Cummings one year and didn't both teams won state title in 2A/2AA ?

Randleman beat the whole class.....where Reidsville didn't. Hey I saw Reidsville and they were AWESOME. I am sure some other teams can claim for one of the best all time. We shall never know and it is hard to compare from different era but Randleman could compete with anyone in any era.

Hey there is a tidbit on Goss!

Antonio Goss (born August 11, 1966 in Randleman, North Carolina) is the current outside linebackers/Special teams coach at East Tennessee State University.[1]Antonio is a former professional American football player who played linebacker for seven seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams. Antonio Goss was a standout in high school sports, lettering in football, basketball, track, and baseball. His athleticism earned him All-American in Football during his senior year. A key member of Randleman’s 2A State Championship teams in 1981, 1982, and 1983. Antonio was named Captain of his football team his senior year based on his leadership on and off the field. Goss was inducted into the Randleman High School Sports Hall Fame in 2013.

Out of all of their titles, Reidsville has never won a single unified division title where there wasn't a subdivided class or alternative association. 2002 Reidsville played from the East and Cummings played from the west but because of subdivision they didn't have to play in the championship. Cummings won the 2A championship and Reidsville the 2AA. In the roughly 30 years that every thing was unified (70's-90's), they were absent from championship play.

This is a very special Shelby team. Even with a running clock only Coach Ware has held back the record books for Shelby and QB Lee. I could easily see a 70 point offensive average if Ware could stomach the critics. Lee could have broke Chris Leaks (Independence) state passing record for NCHSAA schools.

There is still a definite chance....for the season record. SEASON: 5,193, Chris Leak (Independence), 2002
Lee is at 3121 with possibly 7 games to play. That's about 300 yards per game. Easily attainable.

Touchdowns for a season is 77, Josh Ladowski (Lake Norman), 2013
Lee is at 41 with again possibly 7 games to play. That's about 5 per game....could happen but would be tough if he only plays a half next week and in the first couple playoff games.

Just saying the 83 Tigers were not going to beat that year, by anyone....
And for the record , Kyle Petty was not the QB , he was earlier.....It was
Steve Lisk and Chris Wood...........When was Ron Parsons the coach at Reidsville and wonder what he thought of his 83 Tigers.......Since he may be as good as Goss...........

I saw Josh Ladowski play in his record setting all time state passing and running year. Kid was the best athlete I have seen in a single season. Never have I seen a high school kid throw a ball that far. Three inches taller and he is the next college Johnny Manziel. Instead he took a baseball scholarship to Carolina. I was on the sidelines watching his leadership. Very special kid.

With Shelby's Lee it is the running of the receivers after the catch that has led to the big numbers. Receivers Borders and Wright have nice wheels. Glad to see Shelby is starting to get some players back after all the injuries.

Ladowski total of 77 is TD Responsibility, a combination of passing TDs and rushing TDs. Joe Cox threw for 66 TDs to break Leak's 64. Cox threw six picks. Leak's top number was from his senior season when he was called on to do a lot. Had nowhere near the skill weapons or line that Cox had in 2004.

Will Grier threw for 77 TDs and ran for 13 his senior season making his TD Responsibility 90. Due to playing private school football his numbers are not listed by the NCHSAA.

Chazz Surratt at East Lincoln is putting up big scoring numbers both passing and running this season and has a shot to top Ladowksi's record.

Tony Goss is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. His NFL and UNC teammates will tell you the same thing. He is also one of the best all around high school footballers to strap it on in NC history bar none. He did it all. Correct on Petty, he was gone before Goss arrived on campus.

Coach Gregory was a great man and Randleman had a great run with him at the helm. Randleman lost to 3A Eastern Randolph in 1981 and 1982 for their only losses. Played nine regular season games in 1983 replacing Eastern with Asheboro. The Tigers were undefeated in 1983 but they had several really tight games that season and a few of those were against weak opponents. I was at the Sylva Webster semi final game which went down to the wire. Also was at Randleman for the Whiteville state title game in 1982.

Hey guys....thanks about informing me about Kyle Petty as a QB. I wasn't sure which years he play for Randleman. Was he any good? I wish I had seen Randleman but some of my friends had. They said they were pretty darn tootin good! I miss those days but hey we get to see many great teams today too.
