Alright. Let's talk about it. By the time the new AP rankings come out, SWE will probably be ranked in the top 10 2A, but at the time of this posting, they are in the 11 spot. Meanwhile, Tarboro has been #1 in 1A from the beginning, and with good reason. God, are these guys dominating! You might look at their scores and think that their offense is unstoppable, but the truth is, it's their defense that's the real deal. When your defense gets you the ball a hundred times a game, you can't help but score so many points. We all know the Tarboro T is nearly unstoppable as it is anyway.
Im glad that this game is being made up. It is the biggest game on each team's schedule for sure, but either result does Tarboro no good. Only being allowed to use a ten game record for the playoff, they are already 10-0. Won't change if they win. And if they lose, they will just drop it to remain 10-0. I guess having a playoff atmosphere game prior to the actual playoffs is something, but I wouldn't risk injury if I was them. The gate will be outstanding though. As for SWE, we totally need this game. At 9-1, if we lose, we'll just drop it to remain at 9-1, but if we win, we will be 10-1 and drop that non conference loss to be 10-0 for playoff purposes and a possible #1 seed.
I'm shocked that no one is talking about SWE, even though they are ranked in the top 10 in most of the rankings and polls that we follow, with the exception of Carolina Preps, who has them at 19 lol, and here. The adjusted MaxPreps rankings have them at #5 and #4 in their regular rankings. But who knows how they come up with their stuff? I'll admit that SWE's strenth of schedule isnt that great, but still, the only loss came to #5 4A South Central (10-0) by 7, and even then, we had the ball at the SC 15 as time was winding down in that game before a few mysterious calls moved us back and back and back. And SWE just dismantles then 8-1 Beddingfield at their place with the conference championship on the line. Truthfully though, the conference wasn't that strong this year, but it is rated better than Tarboro's conference. And as good as Tarboro's defense is, the defense of SWE is doing pretty well too. The point total for SWE is 423-89 (42.3-8.9). Tarboro's point total is, good lord, 571-25 (57.1-2.5). Those are great numbers by both teams, but neither team has faced the caliber of each other this far. It's going to take a perfect game to beat Tarboro. The edges won't be there because they are quick. The interior holes won't be there because they are strong. I think we have a chance. But I won't take any bets on it. Tarboro could win the 2AA championship.
So let's talk about it. Who ya got?

Will this game be on the radio?
I know Tarboro games are produced out of the WCPS studios. WCPS is an AM station that signs off at 5pm but I think they broadcast games at 105.7 FM. You can also stream the game anywhere on TuneIn by searching for WCPS.

It's funny doing a breakdown of this game. Both teams run the same offensive concepts. Defenses break for the ball the same way. The difference in the outcome is in talent and execution. I really felt like Tarboro could have beaten SWE worse than 20-0 last year, but they started goofing around in the second half getting in their own way. I kind of feel the same about this year's game. Tarboro seems a little better than last year and so is SWE. If Tarboro plays with focus and doesn't let off the gas, 28 points. For SWE, this isn't an run scheme that Tarboro doesn't already know and no one runs on them much. How many times are they prepared to throw to Keishon Porter? He's tall and quick, so he might get by the Vikings once, but he's just one guy. 28-7 Vikings.

Tarboro won 28-0 last year. My guess is the same score...give or take 7 points.

From the atmosphere and talent on the field - this will be a State Championship caliber game.

He's just one guy, but that one guy doesn't make us as one dimensional as years past. We have a stable of 9 running backs in the regular rotation, just like Tarboro has a stable of backs. Our run defense is top notch just like Tarboro's. Rushing defense, push. Rushing offense, push. Passing offense with that one guy, advantage SWE. Passing defense, no idea about that of Tarboro, but SWE is averaging an int a game. Not sure if that will matter much against Tarboro. If it ain't broke, dont fix it, right? But all things being equal, I like having the ability to pass it at will instead of out of desperation. That one guy gives SWE an extra advantage. IF we have time to throw.

The Cougars run defense looks good against lesser rushing attacks. I think the difference is the big uglies. SWE might be able to contain the edge, but Tarboro is just dominates the A and B gaps. This game will be decided in the trenches and its been a while since I have seen a Tarboro O-line and D-line this dominant.

Oh, and for the record, I don't think our QB has been picked off all year. Interpret that however you like.

Thats why I said IF we get a chance to throw it. I've watched some games on film. I completely agree with your description of both lines. But I had to laugh at the fact that Tarboro has yet to be intercepted because throughout the season, three players have attempted a grand total of 30 passes. Not gonna get intercepted at all with 3 pass attempts per game. But I will say this: those 30 passes have been accurate, connecting on 21 of them. But talking about Tarboro or SWE passing is like cussing in Edgecombe County haha.

Oddly enough, Tarboro has thrown the ball more this year than any season I can remember in a long time. Three passes a game isn't a lot, but many seasons we would average a pass every three games! The best part about those passes is about half of them resulted in touchdowns. You have to sell out to the run so much against Tarboro that when they do throw the ball, the best defense is pray the receiver drops it.

Mr. KW, I'll be sitting on the home side, either stirring things up or getting beat up lol. Perhaps we could run into each other.

I see where SWE is projected to be the 1-seed in the 2AA playoffs..... Based on the logic of some posters on other threads, 1AA Tarboro doesn’t stand a chance in this one

Two interceptions by Tarboro in the first half. SWE has had some sustained drives, but picks and penalties have hurt their cause. Tarboro, offense and defense, just like like Novocain. It’s simple but effective.

Three. Three freaking picks.

You have to give it to Coach Cobb. After three INTs in the first half, he kept going back to the passing game and its paid off in 14 points.

After lauding our passing game, I was cussing it out at halftime. But it came to life in the second. Too late though.
