2AA- 2A Bracket

Thomasville can play with any team in our half of the bracket, just worried about all the penalties we get...we're living on the edge all the time it seems...you play with fire sooner or later your gonna get burned...it's like that every play, your just waiting for a flag to be thrown

The bottom portion of your bracket has some interesting potentials there. In the 2nd round, Lincolnton and Reidsville - wow, what a game that could be. For the Bulldogs, Mountain Heritage in the second round, and either Lincolnton or Reidsville in the 3rd round.

Don't sleep on Lexington they are a good solid football team with athletes, and I really like their QB...wouldn't be surprised if they play Lincolnton really close or even win

Respectfully Thomasville would lose to Reidsville or Lincolnton handily in my opinion. Dawgs are improved but not a typical 2 seed in my opinion

I think Lincolnton will be a tough out for anyone. Their only losses came from E Lincoln and South Point. It will be interesting.

This will not be close. Lincolnton has been overlooked because their fanbase has said nothing about them. Look for them to play Shelby in the western title game. This team is top five to six in all of 2A.

Nobody is knocking Thomasville. I've done nothing but encourage the guys on this board for the last 2 years during their transition. I'm a fan of high school football in the triad and when Thomasville is good it bodes well for the triad as a whole. Thomasville is among the best programs in the state and I know that in time they will be back among the best.

In saying that, I stand by my stance that they aren't your typical 2 seed in terms of overall strength. They earned their spot and were given the seed they deserved. However I'm not the only person here who acknowledged Thomasville is improved but not a great football team. Other Thomasville folks have acknowledged as much. Don't take an assessment of your team personal because it's not, at all.

Glad to see Thomasville back in the conversation, but they are not at the level they were a few years ago. But I believe they are on their way back.

Thomasville is 12 pts away from being undefeated, they've lost some close games last year into this year, but seem to have turned it around winning the close games...and a lot of times their their own worst enemy with penalties,we're not gonna blow teams out or be flashy on offence,we're gonna ride our defense and let our offence grind things out and keep the game close then make the plays to win at the end. We are who we are,if we can limit our mental mistakes and not get those stupid undisaplined kind of penalties,we could be really good

GoNthe Distance, no offense taken here. I think your assessment is pretty accurate. We could be 11-0, 8-3, or 5-6. For the fourth year in a row, penalties make the difference. Avoid them, and we usually win.
We have a good defense, but our offensive line is suspect. We count on our speedy backs, but they often get stuffed before the play starts. We now have a kicker, but the snap and hold are always an adventure.

I think the difference between this year and last is a head coach who involves his assistants. Unfortunately, we are losing one of our best three this week and another at the end of the season. Big rebuilding year next year, both staff and team.

OC, agree on all accounts. Great progress over the last year but still a little ways from being "back." I put "back" because Thomasville is used to a much different level of success than most programs. Keep grinding and you guys will be fine.

And for what it's worth, a lot of folks are picking my team (Andrews) to play against Monroe or East Lincoln for the 2AA championship. I said it before the season and during the season and I sincerely hope I'm wrong about this but I do not think we have the QB play to win a state championship. Granted, I think we have one of the best rushing attacks in the state and I'd love nothing more than for us to be able to run it down everybody's throat but I suspect we will see a defense somewhere along the way that will force our QB to beat them. In that scenario, I think our chances for success greatly decline. I hope I'm proven wrong because I love my team and hope they win it all.

OC, we missed five out of six extra points, Friday night, at Maiden. We missed the first one, which was a kick, then went for the two point conversion after the next two scores and missed those. The kick was blocked after the fourth score, then made it after the fifth one, but missed the last one. On the flip side, Maiden missed both of their extra points, one was for two points and the other was a missed kick.
We have a good kicker. Maybe the muddy field played into it. Here's an article from The Hickory Daily Record online, if you'd care to peruse it.

Lincolnton, you may know that Maiden's coach, Frank Snider, is a Thomasville fella, though by way of East Davidson.
Two of Thomasville's three losses were due to missed extra points. Southern Lee scored four points on three td's, while Thomasville scored none on our three touchdowns. Lost to Starmount by one on a missed PAT. Our other loss, to West Montgomery, was by a touchdown, with one of ours called back. This is not to imply that our opponents didn't have something to do with our losses. But we do know how to shoot ourselves in the foot.

OC, I can think of so many games over the years where the extra points came into play. I've heard it said football is a game of inches but we both know it can be a game of small numbers, too.

Speaking of Coach Snider, he lived in Lincolnton, for a while, when he was a kid. It seems like his Father was a minister. he was only here for maybe a summer. He was a little league pitcher for the Kiwanis International. He always struck me out. He would throw high pitches to me and the ball up in my eyes looked like a grapefruit. I couldn't lay off of them. I saw a photo of him in the Hickory newspaper, recently.

I still think Thomasville coach was a poor hire! Only reason the dogs are where they are this year is: 1) Roger Bryant, 2) athletes, 3) weak schedule. His true colors will come out next season when 2 of those scenarios will not be there. The Brown/Cushwa days of Bulldog football are long gone!

To hear that is shocking, because when we played

To hear that is shocking, because when we played y'all in rd 1 in 13, your air attack was a thing of beauty. It opened up holes for big runs, but I left that game thinking that TWA was an air-it-out program.

SWE, we had a great QB at that time, 6'4 kid with great vision, great arm and could run a bit himself when needed. he's since went on to A&T and started as a RS Freshman. the kid we have now isn't a bum by any means, but I just don't think we have the air attack needed if we get in a pinch. I hope I'm wrong but we'll see. our rushing attack is hard to stop though and wears people out so we'll see.

@OldDawgFan,I'm not trying to be ugly or start anything, but if the brown/cushwa days are long gone, let's just leave it there then

Maxwell has done a great job managing team chemistry and handling these kids. He works his tail off planning, practicing, and preparing for games. He has a good staff with some veterans and new guys. He went 8-3 against a schedule that includes 7-8 playoff teams. The Dogs lost three games by 12 points and could have won each of those without a penalty here or there. Yes, the Browns are no longer coaching, but they have left a permanent imprint on the coaches that remain. Losing Bryant will be a big time blow as he is a great defensive mind. But the dogs JV team has talent, won more games than they have in several seasons and the Junior class has some size, athletes, and talent coming back. They had the same athletes last season and went 2-9 so who really was a bad hire?

Traditionally Andrews is a run first team. We would like nothing more than to be very physical and just pound you for about seven yards a carry. We always have a good stable of backs and switched from the spread to the Wing-T a few years ago to better use our talent. The offense is balanced and we are able to throw effectively out of the T but usually don't have to. The 2013 championship team was blessed to have a 1500 yard QB to compliment a 2700 yard RB and two other 1200 yard rushers. If I'm not mistaken that team averaged almost 48 points per game.

Look the only reason why he has done better than last year is because he let's the assistant coaches help out in a bigger way, however, he is one of the worst game managers I have ever seen and it was evident in the three losses which we couldve won if not for poor time management. He never works the refs or tries to question calls. Maybe it's just me but he seems like he could be a better assistant than head coach.
