Jan 'Jan'25: Deadline for schools to submit concerns or adjustments to initial draft

Jan: Realignment Committee reviews submissions from schools

Jan: Initial in-person appeals heard by Committee (Chapel Hill)

Feb: Revised draft distributed to schools

Late-Feb: Realignment Committee holds final meeting before submitting plan to #NCHSAA Board of Directors

March:NCHSAA Board of Directors call meeting to approve a Realignment Plan; new conferences confirmed with 8-classifications using ADM numbers only.

August: New alignment begins

Note: All appeals will be open to all member schools via live-streaming

are they supposed to be voting to have the realignment every two years
I believe that would be a huge mistake. Granted, there are new schools and some with increased or decreased numbers in a four year period. But comparatively that is very much a minority. Don’t punish the majority because of some outliers.

8 separate classes..does this mean more split conferences? I really hope Catholic can stay in the SW4A

There were thoughts the NCHSAA would discuss possible realignment every 2 years vs every 4 years. Board was going to have a discussion about it with the new alignment

I’m interested on # of teams per conference bc Ik they want do a similar model to SC n Ik some conferences In SC have 4 teams to 8 teams

I’m also interested what’s the criteria for conferences like travel , geography, former to current conferences models and are there going be more split conferences

IMPORTANT: Superintendents / Head of Schools received

Don't like 8 classifications either but NC Law forced NCHSAA to go to 8 classification with a 64 school cap in each classification. With 5 or 6 classes there would be closer to 64 schools in each class and then laws would have to be changed when new schools came along. By going to 8 classes, there is wiggle room when new schools are added to the NCHSAA to comply to the 64 school cap in each classification.

Was that state law or the stipulation the NCHSAA put in place?

State law was no more than 64 schools per class
An example of people making decisions about something they do not know as much about as they think they do and without understanding the ripple effect. Six classifications made so much sense logistically especially for the playoffs. Once again, until they figure out how the charter school component will be handled there will continue to be concerns and problems.

They have lots to solve. Some of the numbers I have seen may only have a total of like 32 1A schools with a football program across the entire state. Charters will fill the balance of the 64 but most do not play football or have wrestling. I could see 1A/2A combined for a title in a few sports.

All member schools received 2024-2025 #NCHSAA 20-Day ADM Numbers today. NCHSAA staff need to be notified of any errors and the deadline is TOMORROW at 2PM!

The process relative to our realignment CANNOT begin until all members can be classified accurately.
