2020 season in Febuary.

The percentage game makes us feel better. 42% of 346,000 is 145,320. That’s 145,320 people in nursing homes who have passed from Covid. That’s someone’s parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, sister, brother, love of their life.

That’s my grandfather who recently caught Covid at a nursing home after being transferred from a hospital for additional care. (Tested positive three times from initial surgery at hospital to entering nursing home, caught Covid from a staff member).

Life is bigger than football. Young, old, Democratic or Republican, black or white, we should be taking precaution for one another. It should be Team America. But it’s not. I said it in another thread, people in our state are the reason we may not play in February. And honestly, I’m becoming concerned about this fall too. We don’t care
Yep.

I truly don’t want anyone to die from this thing and the percentage gives me no joy. My point was that in those facilities more precautions are being taken because of the vulnerability of the patients yet COVID is still infiltrating those places. I just simply don’t believe it is working and I also don’t believe all the deaths are truly COVID. Everything is being blamed on COVID. Our country by the last count I had heard, could be wrong now had nearly the same amount of deaths as the past 5 years average yet deaths by FLU, Cancer, Heart disease etc were way down. It just don’t add up

Don't see that happening now....the states are not getting paid to shut down. Feb season will happen with no fans .
Amazing how much worse it can get in two weeks. Self fulfilling prophecy.
You could be right about no fans. Or it could be 100. Don’t think it will be more but the exponential increases could change everything in the seven weeks between now and then. Sad on many levels.

I would surmise the parents will get in. In Cleveland County there is talk of each school having their own you tube channel and pay per view. I may just go old school and peep through the fence . 😳

I bet there will be a lot of fence watchers at games.

In an entire season, counting playoffs, I usually got to see seven or eight games and had to tune in via radio, and rarely did I ever get to hear an entire game, just bits and pieces. This was because of my work schedule. When I retired in January 2020, I felt sure I'd get to see every game.

A few years back, TheMule, posted that he was going to get up early and drive to some location in the eastern part of the state to watch Reidsville in a playoff game, and along the way he was going to stop at Wilber's BBQ in Goldsboro for lunch. I thought to myself, "It must be nice, it's exactly how I'm going to do it when I retire in 2020"... Yeah, right !

You know, it seems like so much of my existence has involved radio broadcasts, just as much or even more so than television. You'd think radio would be a nearly obsolete medium since everything is on the TV or internet, but not for me.

When I was a boy my old man would take a cracker box size Westinghouse radio, sit it in an open window, turn it wide open and listen to the Atlanta Braves. Sometimes, they would be playing on the west coast and the game would still be going at 1 A.M., and I had school the next day. He would sleep with this thing at maximum volume, him snoring so loudly, and his mouth would be wide open, like an alligator. The commentators used to yell so much: "Marichal checks the runner at first-the pitch, There goes a drive, way back, way back, it is gone, gone gone". We must have had some patient neighbors. Nobody ever called the police on him.

Once, I slipped into his room and turned the volume down a little bit, then a little more, a little more until it finally was turned off. I can still hear the click when it was plumb off.
Just as soon as it clicked he made a couple of snorting sounds and woke up. He went to yelling "What the h--- are you doing, turn that back on I was listening to it, Turn it back on. I'll bust your d@mn head, turn it back on". Actually, he was a good guy, he just talked like that, but I digress.

Point is, it looks like radio will save the day for me, again, this season, and probably a lots more, too. Because of radio, I've been able to enjoy a bunch of football and other sports. Should attendance not be allowed I'll do the radio routine, again... If any of the guys from WLON sees this, Thanks for all you do. You don't get nearly enough credit.

Socialism is and will remain alive and well in America. Without it we would still be living in Little House On the Prairie era.
Drinking alcohol as a good metaphor as it relates to socialism. When you make someone drink it when they don't want it then they would be better off living in Little House on the Prairie. Many people drink it don't respect what it will do to them so they go out drive drunk and kill innocent people. Socialism isn't good for America. It has failed every country that have implemented it.

Well, the wife and I drove down to Chapel Hill this morning and got our first vaccine dose (Moderna) from UNC Hospitals at the Friday Center. Very, very impressive operation. They give you a COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card after you get the shot. Has places for the dates of the 1st dose and 2nd dose on the card.

Now, this is something that might get some of you anti-vaccine macho types fired up. I am hearing from a few sources that fans who can show proof of vaccination may be allowed to attend football games this spring. Of course, this will be a decision made probably by local school boards so its not to early to start talking with your local elected board members about this matter and it would not hurt to talk with the folks at the NCHSAA in Chapel Hill.

I have lost several friends in the last month or so from the COVID so please, please everyone wear those masks, wash your hands, and stay away from anyone who does not live in your home if possible.

TheMule, how did you qualify for the vaccine ? Also, have you had any symptoms from it ?

75+ age. Can't even tell I was vaccinated. 65+ age are eligible starting Monday. Call your county health dept or if you have been a patient at either Duke, Baptist, UNC Hospitals, or East Carolina Hospitals call them or even better yet go on line and see if they will give you an appointment. Also Cone Hospital in Greensboro is taking appointments. Don't know about hospitals in Charlotte. Better call soon.

Tomorrow I take my 99 year old mother for her appointment for the vaccine.

Lincolnton, my friend, you may have to go back to work. You would have qualified for the vaccine already! Just kidding. Stay well until it’s your turn.

Mule....good luck for me to get a vaccine in Rockingham County....they only had 600 doses on hand on tuesday (for 75plus) and they were quickly gone....no way will 65 plus have a vaccine in this county anytime soon....guess I'll have to watch games either online or outside a fence.................NC has done a pretty poor job on rolling out this vaccine to the smaller counties...............

OC, if I still worked I would be wearing a burqa and industrial gloves. This time of year, so many people who came in were coughing, sneezing or blowing their noses. Downstairs, we only had cold water and my hands stayed raw and chapped all winter from washing them so much. A local pharmacist told me to use something highly concentrated like Neutrogena hand cream. It really helped.

That’s a visual that had me cackling! My wife and daughter think I’m nuts.....and rightfully so😂

Thanks, TheMule. This is the first time I've had any information about vaccines. I'll be eligible on Monday, then.
As far as side effects, I do pretty good. I took part one of a shingles vaccine, last year. The pharmacist told me I would feel achy for 24 hours, which I did, but when I mowed the grass the aching part went away. No effects from the second part.

If my Mother was living, she would have wanted it. I would cover her up real good, at that age, and I would see if they would bring the vaccine out to the car, which they probably wouldn't. All the best to you and your family.

Lots of vaccination sites allow, and some even require, that you stay in your car.

Can you provide at least one example where Gucci or others have said the vaccine would stop transmission. Last I heard they didn't know. So it would be dumb to only allow vaccinated folks in.

LOL, my friend, if you got a laugh out of it I should feel like Sydney Carton when he said "“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done".

I have no idea whether anyone will require vaccination for athletic admission. But you’ll see it in many activities.

Not all counties are moving on to the 65+ group yet. Davidson and Forsyth aren’t. Don’t believe Guilford is either. It depends on the availability of doses and the size of the 75+ population. For instance, in Davidson County, there are over 25,000 in the 75+ group, but the county has only received a few thousand doses. Check with your county health department, though you can go to another county if they have availability.

One of the biggest problems with the vaccine rollout in North Carolina is that there is absolutely no direction from the State. Every county devises its own program and some of them have no idea what they are doing.

Rambbq will love this. Tuesday was the first day for people in Rockingham County to receive vaccines. Several people had made appointments with the Health Dept in Wentworth at the Governmental Center. There were also drive thru vaccines offered.

My brother and his wife had appointments. When they approached Wentworth there was a long, long, long line of cars. After about an hour they finally got near the Govermental Center and a deputy stopped them and asked if they were there for the vaccine. They said yes and he directed them across the street to an even longer, longer, long line. After about 30 minutes he called the Health Dept and they were mortified to learn that the deputy was sending EVERYONE to the drive thru line. He was supposed to have a clipboard with the names of those who had appointments and to direct those people to the Governmental Center.

As the man said, "What we have here is a failure to communicate".

Total confusion. About 3,000 to 4,000 people showed up for what turned out to be only 600 doses. And many who had appointments never received their doses because they spent ALL DAY in the drive thru line only to be told SORRY, COME BACK ANOTHER DAY.

Oh, rambbq, don't bother trying to go to Yanceyville for the vaccine. They will only provide it to residents of Caswell County.

You’re right that the public health system in North Carolina is a problem in this instance. Each county health department is semi-autonomous and the director answers to the local public health board, not the state. The health board is typically appointed by the county commissioners, so politics can definitely play into something that should be as apolitical as possible.
I can’t imagine any county having a drive up, first come, first served vaccination process. Especially for the 75+ group. There are too many ways to have an appointment system, with no walk ups. Works better in some counties than others apparently.

Are you looking forward to Cherryville, highland, TJ and BC next year?

Not looking forward to it at all, in normal times, I would not waste my money on these games, but it’s been awhile 😡 if the season actually starts only a chosen few can enter stadium anyway.

So, now an Italian luxury fashion designer is an expert on COVID transmission. Amazing. ;)o_O;)

I would say it’s a good chance the season happens. I mean it’s not like basketball is not happening now. Of course it could get shut down.

Yea If that's how it finally shakes down it will be rare for a Friday night to have any excitement whatsoever if the outcome is already known .

I think there are countries that would disagree with your view. Like ALL of the first world countries of Europe for example. They havent failed. In fact they outperform us per capita by any measure you want to use. Especially in citizen contentment. You need to understand the difference between the different levels and kinds of socialism. You assume they all employ the Rush Limbaugh version of socialism, which simply is not true. He doesnt know the difference between fascism, communism and socialism.....Do you?
