2014 NCPreps.com All-State

Dominique Roseboro from Crest is the best ball hawking safety I've seen in high school football in the 40+ yrs I've been watching so yeah who's better.....

Looks like a good list to me. Just like the Shrine Bowl, it is very difficult to pick an All-State team without leaving off qualified players. Doesn't matter who Deana picks, she will get criticism from someone. Congrats to the players who make the list.

agree with the dude above. Who knows. I think by and large mostly the picks are made up of hearsay and some stats that go along with that. This list is probably as good as any.

In NC across all school sizes (4a to 1a) it's a very hard state to define who the best is. For everyone I would replace with another, somebody would come behind me and replace my pick. Thanks Deana for keeping a good site up and running and allowing it to function as it should without too much interference or gestapo-like tactics you see other places.

Agree. Whoever try's to put together a list should ram their head into a wall to get used to the feeling.

Here is what I find a little funny. NCPreps names Mook Reynolds at DB from Northern Guilford and Brian Muckevene a receiver from Cuthbertson. AP names Cameron Harris at DB from NG and JD Cauthen at receiver from Cuthbertson.

Josh Brown from Mallard Creek was beat out by his fellow LB and teammate Tynum Bremby for MECKA Conference Defensive POY.

Jaire Alexander best all around player I saw play this year. Adonis Alexander was a beast but may have had some injury issues later in the season.

Johnathon Smith an outright stud and big time playmaker at LB from Scotland. Best I saw play.

Hughes and Ladowski at the athlete position. Ladowski may be but not enough multi position play to be an athlete. Same with Hughes although he punted.

USA Today All State team.

http://usatodayhss.com/2014/2014-american-family-insurance-all-usa-north-carolina-football-team

No Darian Roseboro from Lincolnton at D Line or Athlete. True game changing player. Would be one of my highest picks.

Many think Mark Fields is the third best DB for Hough, which was absolutely loaded with skill players. He was hurt off and on this season.

USA Today went with McMillan from Scotland over junior teammate Johnathon Smith. McMillan is an awesome player but I thought Smith was the best LB I watched.

They have a tight end position which you do not see as many true TE's now and many are more like wideouts instead of doing a lot of blocking. Lake Norman spread it out a lot.

I like Ladowski at QB but no issue with Surratt or James Smith from Mallard Creek or some others.

Jager Gardner gets his due. Good for him. Gallaspy holds steady on all the teams at running back. True multi dimensional player.

OFFENSE
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Josh Ladowski, Lake Norman (Mooresville)

OL Logan Tisch (6-3, 285, Sr.), Chapel Hill
DEFENSE
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Edward Davis, Farmville Central (Farmville)
The senior linebacker was the linchpin of the Farmville Central defense, averaging nearly 17 tackles a game, with four interceptions, two defensive touchdowns and 45 tackles for loss on the season.

I always question the AP team based on the fact that the person/people selecting this team have probably never seen the majority of their selections play. The same goes for the other teams put together by the other various media sources.

You will also notice that there were other kids on the SB team who were not an all state pick but are going to college on FB scholarships.

They each have some question marks.

Each has at least one glaring omission to me. Crazy, how two players from the same position and same team flip flop on these teams.

The O Line is pretty much the same but in those are positions where I think name recognition may help more as it is not as much an individual stats driven position.

Congrats to every player that made a team.

USA Today missed a little too many to me. The best DB I saw, Amari Henderson from Mallard Creek, the best DL, Darian Roseboro from Lincolnton, and the best LB, Johnathon Smith from Scotland did not make it.

Both Cuthbertson players were awesome. I chose BJ a senior who had more yards. As far as Mook, his INTS were down due to QBs throwing to the other side (Harris).

Atleast I explained why. Who's the omission?

From some comments from friends who saw the Reynolds kid play the past two years I get the impression that they do not think he was as good on either side of the ball this year in comparison to last year. They think his stock went down a bit.

Ramsfan,

You mentioned Richard Huntley. I remember him and Monroe beating my Rams back in 1989 by a score of 24-21 in OT in the 2A Western Finals. The week before, we beat Charlotte Catholic with RB Vee Hood (Elijah's dad).

Jaire Alexander was the best all around player I watched play this season. Returns, defense, and offense he was a playmaker.
