1987 4A State championship Harding Vs Garner

It was the last Wake County Championship UNTIL Wake Forest won back to back....last season and this season. The biggest players on Garner that year were around 200 lbs....HOWEVER...Garner had 3 cheerleaders that year who checked in 275 lbs or more.
The best "prospect" on the field was #21 Ray Durham for Harding. Think he was a sophomore. He played 14 years MLB and made two all star teams.
Lawing was a small QB. Went on to play baseball at App State.
Harding would win the 4A baseball title that spring. Impressive accomplishment just being in the title game as Harding was a relatively small 4A school with less than 1,400 students. South Meck and East Meck were the largest Meck schools then with about 2,300 which led to the opening of Providence.
