Here are my 1st round picks.

West Montgomery over Mitchell
Robbinsville over River Mill
Rosman over Avery
Cherokee over Bessemer City

Gray Stone Day over Highland Tech
South Davidson over North Stanly
Albemarle over Chatham Central
Community School of Davidson over South Stanly

W.S. Prep over North Moore
Highlands over Blue Ridge
Hayesville over East Surry
Bishop McGuinness over W.S. Atkins

East Wilkes over Andrews
Lincoln Charter over Elkin
Mt. Airy over Pine Lake Prep
Hiwassee Dam over Murphy

What are your picks?

Seeing that Atkins has already beat Bishop twice this year I think that Bishop goes out first round. Bummer for them.

I agree except I think Bishop pulls it out. Looking at their schedule they look to be playing good basketball as of late. Also 9 straight years would tell you they play their best basketball at this time of year. Bishop in the upset over Atkins by 5

The 2nd meeting was also close enough (and at Atkins) to warrant the thought that Bishop can beat them. If they can keep Hampton under control (didn't do it in either game), the Camels options dwindle offensively because Bishop has better guard play.

Atkins should rightly be a solid favorite, but that won't be a seismic upset if Bishop were to win. That said, even if they do, Prep will finish them off Saturday.

I agree with most of these except for Atkins over Bishop and Elkin will beat Lincoln Charter. Assuming they(elkin) gets the ball to Thomas and Walters

So I am hoping it is oversight not ignorance that you think what happens between bishop and Atkins will be finished off by prep because the winner of that game plays Hayesville (assuming they win round 1) because i Highly doubt there is any other team in all of girls 1a that has two signed D-1 seniors like Hayesville does I think that after watching the hayesville girls all year they are peaking at the right time and they have the talent to win a state championship

I more just meant that, regardless of what happens tomorrow against Atkins, Bishop's season is almost guaranteed to end by Saturday at the latest.

As for Hayesville, they're certainly a talented team with two standouts players, but Prep is the clear cut #1 team in the state. If that game were to materialize on Saturday, Prep would be a heavy favorite. They'd be playing at home and have as much D-1 talent as the Jackets, not to mention a little more depth.

HD has handled Hayesville 2 times with 0 signed college basketball players. They are just dabbling in basketball waiting on softball to start. With that being said,Hayesville is definitely peaking at the right time and is very capable of winning it all.

Hayesville really did get stronger as the season went on as well as Robbinsville. Let's also not forget about Cherokee. But the team that is just setting back and being quite is Hiawassee Dam. They are tough, well coached and have a deep bench. Like our football in the SMC, our Ladies basketball conference is the toughest 1A conference in the state. That's the Big and Little SMC combined. 4 teams are in the top 10 in the State Rankings

There are a lot of talented teams that have a real shot at the state title and with so much talent, it is hard to predict which one will walk away with it. In basketball a team could "peak" at the right team (and it seems like some are) or a team could just be hot on a particular night while their opponent is having an off night. Although it seems logical that the teams with the most players signed to play college basketball would be the teams with the advantage, it isn't always so cut and dry. Many athletes, especially those from smaller schools, play multiple sports and just because a player didn't sign to play college basketball, doesn't mean she couldn't have. As mentioned in previous posts, HD, for example, has girls with the talent to play college basketball, but chose softball instead. Some girls with the talent to play just choose to focus on academics in college and choose not to play a college sport at all. I am sure there are many other schools in the playoffs that have girls that could have played college basketball but for various reasons, chose not to do so. I think teams should be proud of their college signees because that speaks volumes to the girls' talents but I don't think a team should be cleaning off the shelf for a state trophy based on college signees alone. I think it would be callous to rule out a lot of the teams in the playoffs. On any given night, many of the teams could walk away with the win.

Seems like the girls side is very deep this year ... Gonna be a crazy playoff this year

This should be a good game. I know West is the big Favorite but Rville is a good team. This is 2 top 10s in round 2.

What kind of size does robbinsville have? Just going of scores which is a hit or miss way to look at things but I am going to say a close game but WM pulling away at the end for a 15pt win. This will be a close game and I am assuming physical game.

Their center has signed to play college volleyball and is a very strong rebounder. Had 24 boards in a game a few weeks ago. I think it will be closer than you're predicting, but we will see.

It could be with a rebounder like that. I said it would be close until the very end. Would not surprise me for this to be within 10.

We are young. Mostly 11th and 10th grade. Should be alittle better next year if we can find someone to replace the center.

Not a huge surprise there. West Mont hadn't played much of a schedule this season. If Robbinsville didn't get them, Cherokee would have.
