    Thomasville at Albemarle

Growing pains for AHS - good season and hope to see them build on it next fall. Thank you and godspeed seniors. Congrats and good luck to Tville.

    Thomasville at Albemarle

Vibe is a bit like 1994 . . . year two under Gaster, a resurgent AHS program gets trucked by a bigger, more experienced Tville team in round two of the playoffs in AHS' first postseason appearance in forever. Maybe the start of another big turnaround for AHS? Wish I could be there but am far...

    North Stanly vs Albemarle!!

One of the best rivalries in the state. Throw out the record books. Hope for a great game with no injuries on either side.

    North Moore......

Great job Mustangs. I remember when NM was struggling mightily ten-plus years or so ago. Always fun to see a program get turned around and the community get behind it.

    Albemarle Bulldogs outlook

What is driving the growth? New jobs or just spillover with Charlotte/Concord people who are now WFH and want more space? I agree that if there's real growth then just moving the lines is better. But running four high schools when two are so small they can barely field sports teams doesn't...

    Newspaper coverage

Follow the money. It's not profitable anymore for newspapers to cover HS sports (or much of anything really). Years ago every summer I'd wait for the Observer's HS football preview, then drive to the next county to the only Gboro N&R pay box for miles around and get theirs too. Used to be a...

    WHATS HAPPENED TO ALBEMARLE?

Let's not get carried away. :) The series was dead even from 2001 (first of AHS' three straight titles in the early 2000s) through the end of Akins' tenure in 2012. Tville has had their number since, but even during that stretch, one of the worst in AHS history (five different HCs from 2013...

    Deana King ! ! !

Thanks for everything Deana, you're awesome! While I cannot ordinarily countenance Tar Heel fandom I'll overlook it in this case :)

    Albemarle Bulldogs outlook

Albemarle's problems have been well-documented on here and new_dawg does a good job summarizing them. Bottom line, as new_dawg says, politics and population shifts have made AHS a very different place now than it was 25 years ago. Agree that Gray Stone Day has had a major impact by drawing off...

    South Stanly HFC Vacancy

Like the hire. Confess I have not really followed Terry's career but seems like a great fit. Best of luck to him.

    South Stanly HFC Vacancy

Really hope not. Hoping for better times ahead for SS.

    South Stanly HFC Vacancy

Seems like odd timing. I understand last year was difficult but based on the other recent thread sounded like things were trending in the right direction.

He was also my Sunday school teacher! RIP.

    Thomasville vs. Albemarle

So is AHS showing signs of life or is Tville down a bit this season? Or both? Game was a blowout last year (and AHS got a ton of penalties then too).

    Thomasville vs. Albemarle

I like the Bulldogs in this one. :) I'm afraid it won't be close because AHS has fallen on hard times due to factors that are way outside the control of the players and coaches. But I'll be pulling hard for them anyway. Opening night is always special. Brings back lots of memories. Here's...

    What has happened at Albemarle?

Excellent post. Thanks for that very thorough background. It is consistent with what I've been hearing from family and friends back home but I wasn't really tuned in to all the details. Completely agree with your assessment. As somebody who grew up in the area but has lived away for many...

    What has happened at Albemarle?

I don't know the answer but I assume it's the same combination of factors that caused a decline in the FB team's fortunes. Shrinking population, redrawn district boundaries, local private schools are taking away good teachers ($$), North Stanly's star is on the rise after a generation or two...

    Alb vs SS

Good to see you sway. . . . didn't think there were any AHS fans left on here. Dark days.
