Did Burns Fail?

  • Yes they did...miserably

  • No...it's okay to be reckless

What a disgrace to schedule an opponent then cop out because of the weather. Only reason it was done…because they can get away with it. If Burns had to forfeit for not appearing they would be on their way to Concord right now and everyone knows it.

Right now every Burns fan should be looking at their Pro-Keds or yellow fungus-stained toenails with a level of shame previously unmeasured by man or machine. You deserve this ridicule. Unacceptable.

The Weekly Western 1A Report for Week#3!

Well, we're now 3 weeks into the season, and the number of unbeaten Western 1A teams continue to dwindle, so let's take a look at the 6 Western Conferences, and what's happening:

Yadkin Valley Conference(YVC)-9 Members
------------------------------------------------------------
The one thing about being one of the biggest conferences in the state is that you don't have to find as many non-conference opponents to fill your schedule, and such is the case in the 9-member YVC as conference play begins this week for several teams.....The YVC has two teams with a winning record, and both schools are located in Montgomery County....West Montgomery(3-0) remains unbeaten after a hard fought victory(13-6) over 2A Thomasville(1-2) last friday in MT Gilead...Meanwhile, East Montgomery(2-1) won their 2nd consecutive game, beating 2A Trinity(1-2) 33-14....It won't take long for the 1A Eagles to find out about themselves as they host a hungry and winless Albemarle(0-3) Bulldog team this coming friday in the YVC opener for both teams...Meanwhile, North Stanly(1-1) will play their first home game this friday, a couple weeks after losing their first game of the season at 3A Sun Valley(63-38)...This week the Comets will try to prevent 2A West Stanly(2-1) from claiming the outright Stanly County Championship as the 2A Colts have already beaten South Stanly(30-12) and Albemarle(6-0) on Saturday to put themselves in position to claim the undisputed Stanly County 2015 title...Along with Albemarle, Chatham Central, South Davidson and the Union Academy Cardinals have also started the season 0-3...North Moore(1-1) which was off last week will open conference play this friday when they host the South Stanly Rebel Bulls(0-2) in Robbins...

Both Swain County(2-1) and Murphy(2-1) bounced-back after suffering their first loss of the season to 2A WNAC foes Smoky Mountain and Franklin...The Maroondevils traveled to Henderson County on friday, and knocked-off the previously unbeaten 3A North Henderson Knights(28-24), and won't get a breather this friday in Franklin at the Panther Pit....Murphy shutout(43-0) the Carolina Wildcats from Pickens S.C., and will travel to face another home school team this friday when they play the North Georgia Falcons...Much like Cherokee the week before, Andrews found points and yards hard to come by on the road at Mitchell County as the Wildcats were shutout 49-0 by the powerful Mountaineers from Mitchell County(3-0)...Meanwhile, Cherokee's "Battle between the Nations" with Chowtaw Mississippi came down to the final minutes, but a Cherokee turnover late in the game sealed the Braves' doom in a heartbreaking 21-20 loss to their rivals in Mississippi....The defending state champs from Robbinsville(1-2) suffered their 2nd straight defeat of the season, down in Trenton Georgia, losing to Dade County 20-6...The Black Knights will look to bounce back this week against another Georgia team from Rabun Gap...

1A/2A Mountain Valley Conference(MVC)-4 1A Members

MAC week 3.....

Well we are really getting a idea where the league stands now. As expected Reynolds, Erwin, and Asheville are at fighting for the top spot. NB looks like they want to break in to that top 3. Enka seems to be improved. Roberson is still a ? to me. Mcdowell is not bad either. Overall I believe this is the strongest the MAC has been from top to bottom in a while.

Here are the week 3 games..

Ooltewah at Erwin
Reynolds at Owen
Enka at Smokey Mtn
Asheville at Pisgah
Mcdowell at Tuscola
Roberson at East Rutherford
Mtn Heritage at North Buncombe

My picks..

Ooltewah 21 Erwin 14...It hurts me to pick against my Warriors but I know what we face Friday night. Ooltewah is big 5A school with close to 80 players. The have only been scored on once this year including the preseason. With that said this might be the best team Erwin has had yet. They have a very good qb, wr's, and rb's. They also have a good defense.

Reynolds 55 Owen 21...Reynolds may very well be the best team in the mtns this season and Owen is in a rebuilding phase.

SM 28 Enka 21...Both of these teams are much improved but I will go with the home squad.

Asheville 42 Pisgah 21...I don't ever remember these two proud programs playing, but I am sure they have. Asheville is just way to fast for the Bears.

Tuscola 28 Mcdowell 17...Tuscola looks to be a better team this year. Mcdowell has a good qb, but it will not be enough to get a w in Waynesville.

East Rutherford 42 Roberson 28...East has enough athletes to beat Roberson. The Rams are still a mystery to me.

MH 28 NB 24....This game will be very close. MH is a very physical team with a good qb. North Buncombe is looking good this far, but it is hard to tell because of their schedule.

Four County Conference Week 4

18-2 on the year so far. Missed the WRH/JK and W. Bladen/Whiteville games last week.
Here goes Week 4:
Wallace-Rose Hill @ South Columbus- Tough loss last week for the Bulldogs. They will take their frustrations out on SC. Wallace-Rose Hill 38- South Columbus 6
West Bladen vs. St. Paul's- Not sure where the Knights were in the first half last week but they better bring it Friday. This will be an old fashioned shoot-out. West Bladen 56- St. Paul's 47
Midway vs Lakewood- Midway again looks to remain undefeated. I'm riding this horse until the East Bladen game. Midway 24- Lakewood 20
Trask @ E. Columbus- Trask should have no problem with the Gators. Trask 35- East Columbus 7
Union vs Hobbton- Union takes the wins with a shutout. Union 27- Hobbton 0
Pender vs N Duplin- Pender keeps it close but ND pulls away at the end. North Duplin 35- Pender 22
Clinton- Open
East Bladen- Open

Cape Fear Valley Conference Week 4 Picks

E.E Smith @ Douglas Byrd, EES 42-14

Pine Forest @ Gray's Creek, GC 35-16

Lee County @ Western Harnett, LC 49-7

Southern Lee @ Ozen, TX, SL 21-20

Terry Sanford @ Cape Fear, 28-13

Jordan-Matthews @ Union Pines, UP 26-21

Westover @ Purnell Swett, Westover 21-18

E.E. Smith stomps Douglas Byrd. Gray's Creek rolls past Pine Forest. Lee County wallops Western Harnett. Southern Lee picks up a win in the Lone Star State. Terry Sanford defeats Cape Fear. Union Pines defeats Jordan-Matthews. Westover shocks Purnell Swett.

4-2 last week, 17-3 overall.

Mt.Airy Granite Bear vs Elkin Bucking Elks -Week #3
This is supposed to be a TWC game probably only seen on TWC in the Elkin and Mount Airy cable subscribers area. Could be wrong but don't see them getting advertisers from other areas. You can hear it on one radio station only http://www.wpaq740.com .... Elkins WIFM 100.9 is covering E.Surry vs N.Surry tomorrow night. Watch TWC http://www.twcsportschannel.com/videos/2015/08/27/nc---mt--airy-vs--elkin.html then for your best play by play action turn TV sound down and listen to the best high school football coverage in the area on http://www.wpaq740.com

NORTH SURRY GREYHOUNDS

I want to congratulate the Greyhounds on their 2 and 0 start to this season.Since all the publicity and talk has been about the Greyhound offense,I want to give a shout out to the defense who have played very well this season and spent roughly 80 percent of the 1rst half on the field friday night so way to go Greyhounds Varsity football Team.
