Kannapolis 23. Mooresville 9

Kannapolis is one of my all time favorite places to go for high school football. My good friend Mr. B always welcomes us with a smile and we are made to feel at home in our perch atop the press box.

Now to the game. Both teams traded early field goals. Mooresville scored the first touchdown but missed the xp to go up 9-3. But Kannapolis returned the ensuing kick off for their first touchdown at took a 10-9 lead into the locker room at the half. Kannapolis scored their first offensive touchdown of the game late in the third to extend their lead to 17-9. A couple of 4th quarter field goals sealed the win for the Wonders as the remain unbeaten on the season. Mooresville falls to 2-2 on their season. Both teams are idle next week.

Although both squads appeared to be evenly matched, Mooresville continued to shoot themselves in the foot on offense, as well as, special teams. Kannapolis capitalized in the second half, as most good teams will do. Very impressed with both teams defensively. Good luck to Kannapolis the rest of the way. Hopefully my Blue Devils will continue to improve as NPC plays begins in two weeks.

Albemarle vs East Montgomery

Ok fellas here we go. Conference is here after a disappointing loss last night can our boys come out and get the win? Emery and Bennett back should have our offense moving the ball again. Can our defense hold up consistently like they did last night?

With EM seemingly improved I think this will be a hard fought contest but our boys will come out on top and kick off conference play with a win.

Hoggard @ Charlotte Christian

Hoggard travels to Charlotte this Friday to play a very good Christian team. Both teams come in 1-2. CC has lost to Catholic 5-0 and Weddington 16-6 and they have beaten Myrtle Beach 24-3. MB was ranked 1 is SC 3A polls before that game. Hoggard comes into this game with a losing record for the first time since 2010 and still trying to put their starting team on the field. Hoggard defense has taken huge hits with the loss of 3 preseason starting players no longer on the team. One had to transfer, one was kicked off and the other decided not to play. With all that the defense has played ok and kept the Vikes in games. The offense looks like it is getting better but still has a long way to go. They will face a very good CC defense. If Hoggard can put its best players on the field they should be able to keep it close and maybe steal one. They will probably be 14 points underdogs in this one.

McDowell High School Hazing

Every coach in the state should start the year with a stern warning that hazing or disrespect of teammates results in a loss of sports participation and legal ramifications. All coaches should have this discussion tomorrow if you have not yet made it clear. No child should be sexually assaulted with a broom handle. Where the hell was the coaches supervision in the locker room? Disgusting and cruel.

A Major Study In Not Ducking Competition (A Tribute To Garinger)

This week in Charlotte, there will be a mismatch of major proportions. Winless Garinger will be playing at Mallard Creek. Garinger is a study in futility, while Mallard Creek is favored to win their third straight state title. This game is a story of total contrasts.

For Mallard Creek, since 2008, on the field, the program has gone 81-8 with two state titles. Since 2011, the Creek has gone 58-5. During that same span, they are averaging 46.17 ppg and giving up 12.35 ppg. They have two state titles to their credit.

For Garinger, the result is quite different. Since 2011, Garinger has gone 14-64. They've lost 42 of their last 43 games. They are currently on a 33 game losing streak. Since 2011, they have averaged 5.72 ppg while allowing 45.42 ppg.

I want to pay a tribute to the players at Garinger. You haven't seen the results you want, but you go out and play week in and week out. You play some very tough teams in Charlotte. This week you"re going up against the state title favorite. I honor you for your dedication and willingness to play this game.

I understand Mallard Creek has a tough time every year finding ooc opponents. Let the Garinger Wildcats be an example to all the schools who don't want to schedule teams like Mallard Creek. Follow their example. It would take divine intervention for Garinger to win this game. But, at least they're going to show up and play.

Wildcat and other Richlands faithful

I saw something tonight that made me proud of the Wildcats and as I East Duplin fan, you will probably never hear me say that again lol.

Anyways, I got off late from work and knew I wouldn't make it for the East Duplin game before kickoff, so me and a buddy decided to head to Deep Run and watch Richlands take on South Lenoir. It was a beating in favor of Richlands. I think the finally score was 33-0. Things even got a little chippy before the game was over. After the game was over, the players and coaches shook hands and they both huddled on opposing sides of tbe field. Richlands finished their speech first and headed for the buses. As South Lenoir finished their huddle and headed for the locker room, 10 to 15 Wildcats met them and talked with them and praised them for playing hard.

This gives me hope in high school football. After dragging a team all night long, the Wildcats had the willingness to meet up with South Lenoir players and compliment them and shake their hands once again even though they weren't required to. I'm not sure what the Wildcat coaching staff is doing, but they are doing it right and other teams could learn from it. That degree of sportsmanship at this level of play just blew my mind. You don't often see moments like that.

Kudos to the Richlands coaching staff. I'm proud of what yall are instilling in those young men.

Hey Tank!

the guy you replace just done something you cannot do! He just beat a 4a school. He did it with 2a talent, he did it scoring 20 plus points and giving up 14 points. Right now his NEW team is 1-1 and both games were against 4a schools. You are 1-2 with a win against a struggle 1a school and 2 blowouts against a 1a and 4a school.

You know I have said I would not bash the kids, and I won't. But when they read and they digest what is going on at there school. Look at your dads and ask why did you do this? #daddyballisbestinrobco

Time to start looking for a new coach!

Cherokee Braves roll !!!

Braves unleash an offensive attack tonight on a very big, physical 2A Cosby, TN team. Braves rolled to a 30-6 halftime lead and never looked back. Mintz to McMillam was a deadly combination tonight. Cherokee looked like they had more starters not dressed out than dressed out!! Come on Braves, get healthy!

Smoky Mountain up next. Now that's a tall order!

Lincolnton 43 East Gaston 33

I had to work until 10 PM, Friday, but still got to see the second half due to a long lightning delay. For most of the first half East Gaston must have beaten us in every way. At one point and pretty early in the game the Warriors had us down 26-7, or at least this is what the score was when I turned on the radio for an update.

Lincolnton came back with a couple of scores later and seemed to have the momentum as they pulled within six points, but when the Wolves appeared to have held EG and would go into the break on a high note, as time expired, some seconds were put back on the clock. East Gaston took advantage of it and scored on a pass giving themselves a 12 point cushion.

In the second half Lincolnton came back scoring twenty-two points and our defense was able to keep them out of the end zone. I would say that the long delay benefitted the home team but our guys fought hard to come back and win. Way to go, y'all.

Side Note: I am a loyal wolf and am grateful for every minute and every ounce of effort our coaching staff and players puts into to the game, but this year I've seen more than usual instances where some of our guys had to be restrained from confronting opposing players by fellow players and coaches. Provocative things happens and sometimes it's hard for a young person to keep his temper, especially in something as passionate as sports...Lincolnton football is admired by many of its opponents for its class and discipline which the entire community is proud of. I would hope that as a player you would think of your team first. What might seem emotionally satisfying isn't always helpful. We need you on the field and not in the stands. Please consider what your coaches have to say about this.
Go Wolves.
