Swain @ Hayesville

Should be a competitive matchup

Last night Swain handled Andrews in all facets of the game.

Unfortunately they still put the ball on the ground and had a multitude of drive stalling penalties. The good news though is none of the flags were for unsportsmanlike conduct or personal fouls. Swain had success on the ground but threw the ball more this game than they had all year; despite scoring through the air and having more air yds than ground yds near halftime there was still 2 or so balls that should’ve/could’ve been intercepted. If Swain wants to actually incorporate the pass game they need to really tighten things up and work on the pass blocking.

Murphy fans, how did Hayesville look? The score suggests a real close game but was that really the case? Thank you in advance.

I personally think Swain should keep rolling if they are legit challengers for the SMC, but the penalties/constant turnovers concern me against a much improved, battle tested Hayesville at home.

I guess we will see Friday

Swain: 21
Hayesville: 14

CCC 1A/2A Conference Week 5

Heading into the last three regular season games the league is a battle of just a few teams from 3rd-5th for playoff wildcards. Salisbury 8-0 is the obvious choice and the 2A #1 seed. N Rowan has locked the 1A #1 and currently sits at 6-1 overall. Lexington 5-2 overall sitting in 3rd faces a gauntlet of Salisbury, N Rowan and Thomasville the last three weeks. Jackets are much improved and we will see how improved after this stretch run of games against three ranked teams. Thomasville is idle this week and stands at 5-3 overall but has gotten on an offensive roll outscoring the last two opponents 95-2 the last two weeks. Bulldogs have three losses to highly ranked 2A Randleman, 2A Salisbury and 1A top 5 NR and still have a very good defense that has allowed 48 defensive points in 8 games. South Davidson 3-5 has lost five straight after a 3-0 start. The Wildcats have faced five playoff teams in those losses but can salvage a 4-6 or a 5-5 season with wins over East and West Davidson. Cats have not beaten East maybe ever, but have beaten West lately so there is hope in Denton for a strong finish and playoff away game. East Davidson is currently 2-5 with games against SD, Thomasville and WD coming up. The Eagles struggles on defense continue but they should be able to get a win or two the last three weeks. West Davidson sits at 0-7 and just would like to find a way to get one win. Likely to not happen and an 0-10 is staring them in the the face for the 23 season.

This weeks games are mostly snoozers. Salisbury vs. Lexington will be a blowout for the Hornets. The Jackets are better but not ready for the Hornets. East vs. South is the best chance to see a competitive game. The Wildcats have faced the gauntlet of Lexington, N Rowan, Salisbury and Thomasville for four straight losses. The Easgles continue to show struggles with consistency and stopping opponents. Have the Wildcats been beaten into submission for the season after back to back blowout losses or can they upset the Eagles for what might be the first win in school history or atleast modern era win over the Eagles? I call it for ED in a pretty tight game. The last one is West vs. N Rowan. West will go to 0-9 after another smashing from NR and those speedy athletes.
Thomasville is idle with the bye week as they prepare for a local rival game next week with East.

Reagan @ East Forsyth

Reagan rolls into East Forsyth playing the toughest schedule in this state, now they're trying NOT to go 0-4. I see some progress with the Reagan defense despite the losses. East Forsyth is coming off a single digit win and looking to get the offense untracked after a pedestrian 2nd half vs AC Reynolds. This game could be closer than many think...then again, East might blowout Reagan.

I still haven't seen enough from East with that schedule to get a good read on them yet.

East Forsyth 38 Reagan 21

MPC Week 8

OG vs ND
MC vs Ledford
Aboro vs CD

Well... it's time. Rivalry week for OG and ND. Other than West Forsyth Oak Grove has obliterated everyone. North has found the going tough against a strong schedule but are prepared for conference as a consequence. OG is averaging 44 points a game and ND is giving up 29, which to be fair the defense played their best game of the season last week only giving up 7 on one long pass to MC. OG looks like the best team in the conference but rivalry games are never a for sure thing. I expect the Grizzlies to win but am hoping for a good clean game and not a flag fest which was the case last year.

Ledford will destroy MC.

Central will kill Aboro.

Mason scores 100th TD

Tyler Mason continues to run through the record books at Mount Airy.
In a 77-0 win on Friday night against South Stokes, the senior running back found the end zone five times to become the first player in program history to score 100 career touchdowns.

91 one have come on the ground, 5 have been punt returns, 1 was receiving, 1 came on a kick-off return, and 2 were on the defensive side of the ball after taking a pair of interceptions to the house.
Over half of his career scores came in the midst of a historic junior season. Mason ran for 2,309 yards and scored 52 touchdowns last fall as the Granite Bears secured the 1A state championship.
Since then, he has become a Virginia Tech recruit with hopes of putting the ultimate stamp on his legacy in Mount Airy with a second consecutive ring before heading off to Blacksburg.
So far, the Granite Bears are on their way to another impressive season. They enter week 9 with an 8-0 record having outscored their opponents 442-22.

Following a bye week, Mount Airy wraps up its regular season with a home game against Elkin and a road trip to Alleghany.
Wherever the Granite Bears journey takes them from there, just know, #5 in blue and white will be leading the charge into the end zone.

SUGGEST A CORRECTION

6-1 Farmville @ 3 -3 West Craven

Since my team has a bye week, I figured I'd take this game in, since it can determine a lot in the Eastern Plains Conference. A WC win could set up a showdown for a winner-takes-all finale with SWE. A FC win could set up a 3 way tie for first place, if WC defeats SWE in the finale.
6-1 Farmville Central has a lights out offense that leads the state (2A) in points by a wide margin. But why aren't they in anyone's top 10? It's because those 6 wins come against teams that are a combined 7-31. And one of those 7 wins was a forfeit. The one time they did play an average team (SWE), they lost. Even then, they still scored 48 points. However, the SWE defense is near the bottom of the state in points allowed. I just don't know how they would fair vs a team that is at the very least decent on both sides of the ball.
The thing about 3-3 West Craven is their 3 wins have come again 3 of the same teams FC faced and beat. However, their 3 losses (defending 2A champion East Duplin, formerly defending 4A champions New Bern, and powerhouse 3A Havelock) would have been 3 losses for anyone. Therefore, I have 0 idea if West Craven is good, bad, or somewhere in the middle.
I think both teams will keep the scorekeeper busy, with Farmville emerging 40 something to 30 something. 41-35 is my guess. Could be a 3 way tie for conference supremacy in the end for the EPC.
Any opinions on this game?
