A buddy of mine told me that he had been called by the principal but he wasn't going to interview due to the distance from his current situation. I think they want to move faster than the county might allow with all the uncertainty.
Why the change in the AD position at AHS? Might be going back to being a Jackman! Sure wouldn't blame him. What a zoo!!

I've seen better days of Unity among Albemarle up to the stress that happened with this situation.The truth is that these same Athletes will be playing Football no matter where They end up at.
Didn't know Wes had left TW. Well if you can't check the eligibility of players you might as well get in another line of work!

Pretty sure I know him. Talked to him at WalMart a while back. He helped out with the football team some time back. Think on the medical end. He is a sharp guy. Thanks for the info TW.
I think a lot of Mr Deese and I think this is a great hire. He is very familiar with the kids and I think he'll do a much better job of staying on top of things from the classroom side. I know he reads the message boards here so I'd like to be the first here to congratulate him and wish him well. I've said ever since "the debacle" that I was done, but I may have to swing by on some Fridays this fall in support of someone I think very highly of.
I am hoping they can keep Herlocker in the weight program. He can be beneficial there and with the football specialist. He has done something that very few have did from Albemarle and that is play football at the FBS level. In addition he has worked in the college game as a strength and conditioning coach. That type of resume does not show up everyday at a 1A school.
Along with bubbarocks I would like to congradulate Terry on becoming the new AD at AHS. This is a good solid hire. Finally a good solid move at the high school. It's about time don't you think!!!!

I'll admit I didn't know if we would have football this fall At Albemarle, but you were right all along sway. Guess you're more of an optimist than I am. Anyway it doesn't matter what kind of team we have as long as we have one. I know they will be very young, so we will just have to watch them grow up as the season goes along. I am very happy that I will have at least one more season to watch my bulldogs on Friday night.
Last season the Varsity O/D line was mostly Seniors and the JV O/D line was small and pretty much thrown together just to fill a schedule. They will have the skill guys, but what about the O line? Without that, that infamous power play and counter they run is dead in the water.
I agree bigtime. It will be a challenge. But in my opinion the OL has been a problem for the last several years. At least in time maybe these young guys can learn how to block!!!

If you saw last years ALB J.V. then you saw our QB. Very mobile...I hate that "YES" he will have to "Run For His Life" this year lol....but hell, its been that way for the last 4 years. Dunlap had a decent line, but was good enough to open up holes and block for him...but I also seen him take some big hits also.

After talking to some people today that know more than I do about this situation I get the feeling that this school board has made up their minds to close some schools and consolidate some schools. I think they are letting the people speak out but don't think they are going to change their minds. I was told that they approated no money for the schools in question. Also was told that they did not go look at the said schools in question about their conditions. I have had this feeling all along and I can't shake it. I would almost bet money that they will vote on this at their April meeting. Sorry but I don't trust this board to do the right thing. Listen to the people!!!!! I trust the people that told me this, so all we can do is wait and see.
This just in! SCS did not do a mandatory facilities assessment in 2010 as required by state law. It must be done every 5 years and 2005 was the last time an assessment was done in stanly county. When asked about this the superintendent said she was unaware it had not been done in 2010 as she came here in 2012. Yet these people are wanting to close some schools that are in bad shape, when they don't have a clue what kind of shape they are in. The superintendent said she would ask the board to vote to have an assessment done at the April meeting. They wanted to close some schools when they were in direct violation of state law. You just can't turn your back on anyone anymore. Let's see what happens at the April meeting.

The superintendent had already requested the approval to do the facilities review. That has been a hot topic because it did not list the three elementary schools. The reason for that could be that they want to do something different, no idea.
Unfortunately probably more than the three elementary schools that are on the chopping block are below standards. Badin, over 100 years old (I think), is possibly the best built but in bad shape due to its age.

I don't think you can lay blame on the current superintendent or BOE for this oversight/violation. I know of at least one current board member who was on in 2010, not sure if there are any others.
If they were not on the board in 2010 I am not blaming them new_dawg. But I think we really need to know what shape our school building are really in. Since it was not done in 2010 that's 10 years since an assessment has been done. A lot can happen to buildings in 10 years. Before they start closing schools I would just like to know what condition they are really in. I think all the people have a right to know!

Yes Buddy I have followed that somewhat. There is an audio available somewhere of the debate about that on the floor. Burr took some hits questioning why a recall, which is expected to cost $25k to $50k from the schools account, so soon after the November election. I personally agree on that. Burr could have used this issue to win over a lot of people with some sensible discussion and try to bring all sides together, instead he attacked everyone, especially the single County Commissioner, and then went straight for the bills. Political grandstanding. I definitely do not like the Bill that will require school board candidates to list their political party affiliation. He likes that because his party is currently the one in power in the county by a strong bit.
As far as recall, as many board members can be recalled as are named as long as they have the required amount of signatures to get the recall vote brought forward.

The big question to me is " are the board members really listening to the people of stanly county". They have spoken loud and clear about their disproveable of plan A and Plan B. If they are not listening then I approve of the recall bill that rep. Burr put before the legislature. The board to me seems hell bent on going with plan A no matter what. Without a current assessment of all the buildings in the system they have no clue as to what kind of shape our facilities are in. I think 2 things are a must at this point in time. Do a current assessment of all the facilities and redistrict the whole system. Maybe some schools need closing and maybe not. But how can you start closing schools without all the necessary information in front of you. As far as going with 2 HS's how can you do that with NS and WS already looking like a trailer park. I think the board is looking to cut costs at the expense of hundreds of students. To me this is not acceptable. Do we really need a magnet school? I'm still not sure about this. With the early college and Greystone offering more advanced courses, that may be enough. However I'm not totally opposed to a magnet school if the demand is there. These are just some of my thoughts. I sincerely hope the board will look at all the options instead of going ahead with what they have and maybe having lots of regrets down the road. I think this is a crossroad for stanly county schools and we need to make the best decisions possible!
Buddy, Plan B shut down Albemarle HS. The complaints I have heard is how can you close a school in the county seat. No one will want to live there and no one or business will move in. The issue is that we are losing potential contributors to the community due to the current state of AHS and many have opted for alternative education opportunities due to the issues at the school. By losing so many, people that are supportive of AHS and diversity then are forced to deal with the educational offerings and many that are big contributors of their time, money, and "political" support move their students.
I am not for closing schools at this point but I do think we will need to revisit that option in the next five years.
I am 100% in support of a redistricting plan that would not automatically associate a high school with an elementary school.
I guarantee you if this board would have redrew lines to even out the schools capacities to some degree and put students at the schools nearest their homes you would have seen a revolt close to what we are seeing now. The difference would have been South Stanly and Albemarle would have been on the sideline while West Stanly fought the fight alone.
I am not for closing schools at this point but I do think we will need to revisit that option in the next five years.

According to todays edition of the Snap, if Stanly County's school board members are removed by a recall election, then it will be county commissioners who appoint their replacements. This brought about by an amendment to HB 111 filed by rep. Burr. It has passed the house and now goes to the Senate. To have a recall election a petition of 15% of the registered voters in the county would have to be obtained. This is about 5800 signatures. From what I understand 6 of the 7 board members are in favor of closing schools, so I think a recall election is a strong possibility. We shall see!
In the past the school board or any board that has a member removed would replace that member themselves. Burr's idea was if he got three removed the remaining three in favor would jockey for new members that would agree with their philosophy.

He ran against Burr in one of his first elections but a local doctor of Indian descent, Metha, hopped in the race and caused a split among a lot of the votes that many expected Furr to get. Kenny Furr was a WNCHSAA wrestler, captain of the UNC wrestling team, and a highly decorated special operations officer in Viet Nam. Think his family owned the Minnow Pond and he owns a winery off 24/27 going toward the bridge. He lost to a person that had no college degree, had only worked for his father's bail bond business, and was in his early 20's. This was mentioned to me by a business owner in the county this week and he remarked, "pretty impressive Stanly County" which I will take he meant the exact opposite.

It was. Unfortunately the lunatic fringe runs rampant in Stanly County. Kenny Furr is a man that has walked the walk. Huge respect for him.
I feel confident if the Republican Party was not so dominant in Stanly County that Rep Burr would not want to change the election process for school board to a party affiliated election.

I am looking forward to and expecting the school board meeting tomorrow night to be very interesting. Here it is April and they have made no decision one way or the other. Time is running out if they expect to get anything done for the coming school year. That's less than 4 months away.
Should also be an interesting meeting tonight of the BOCC. Understand commissionier Ascuitto has some people lined up to speak against H1111 and H1112. As we all know he is against these 2 bills and also in favor of closing schools. There we also be time allotted for anybody to speak that is in favor of these 2 bills. Things are starting to heat up.
Just a brief note on the BOCC meeting last night. Commissioner Asciutto brought up the 2 bills in Raleigh by Rep Burr and wanted the board to send a resolution to Raleigh against these 2 bills, but his motions died for lack of a second. I understand that after the meeting there was some discussion between people in favor of these 2 bills and Peter and that some lines of communication were established between these 2 parties that might prove to be a good thing down the road. I think the commissioners as a whole are in favor of keeping all the schools open and now it will come down to weither or not they will provide the funds to do so. Now the big question is what will the BOE do tonight at their meeting.
