2023 Area 2 Playoffs

The American Legion Baseball Area II playoffs are set to begin this week. Only 5 teams will participate. Brunswick, Pleasure Island and Wilmington Patriots elected not to continue, while Hampstead was ruled ineligible.(Late turning in roster)

No. 4 Port City and No. 5 Hope Mills will play (either 3 or 5 games. Still waiting for verification) and the winner will get No. 1 Wilmington in a best-of-5 semifinal No. 2 Carteret and No. 3 Hamlet will play in the other semifinal When I get exact dates, I'll publish them.

Of the eight teams that compete in the Area 2 conference, five made the postseason. Three of the five teams — Hamlet, No. 1 Wilmington Post 10 and No. 5 Hope Mills Post 32 — play in the South Division.
The other two teams — Carteret and No. 4 Port City Post 545 — made it from the North Division.
The top three seeds earned a first-round bye and that No. 4 Port City and No. 5 Hope Mills will play a play-in series.
The teams will start a best-of-five game series with Hamlet against No. 2 seed Carteret Post 99 on July 12

Port City Post 545 didn't have enough players tonight, so they had to forfeit Game 3 of the first round of the Area II playoffs. Port City still leads the best-of-5 series 2-1. Game 4 will be at Hope Mills on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Port City Post 545 and Hope Mills Post 32 were unable to finish their opening round series in the Area II playoffs, so Port City advanced to the semifinals since they were up 2-1. They will now take on Wilmington Post 10. Here is that series schedule:

Winner of this game will take on Wilmington Post 10 in the Area II championship series next week

Game 3 of the Area II semifinals between Port City Post 545 and Wilmington Post 10 has been forfeited by Port City. Wilmington wins the series 3-0. They will host the first 2 games of the championship series on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m.
